The Threat alert window is displayed when a threat (malicious code) is detected by any of the protection modules of ESET NOD32 Antivirus. ESET NOD32 Antivirus displays two types of alert windows.
1. Threat alerts requiring no user interaction
This alert is displayed if ESET NOD32 Antivirus has performed an action on an infected file. The purpose of this alert is only to notify the user.
Object
Name of the file that was detected as an infiltration.
Note
The teminology varies with different antivirus producers. Visit our website to find more detailed information about infiltrations.
Threat
Name of the infiltration (according to ESET terminology).
Information
The action performed by the program when the infiltration was detected.
Close
Click “x”to close the alert window before it closes automatically
Show settings
Click “v” to quickly deactivate displaying of alerts and configure their display mode.
2. Threat alerts requiring user interaction
Depending on the settings defined in the ThreatSense setup, ESET NOD32 Antivirus may require an action to be taken.
Object
Name of the file that was detected as an infiltration.
Threat
Name of the infiltration (according to ESET terminology).
Comment
Information about the infected file.
Copy to Quarantine
When selected, a copy of the infected file will be stored safely in quarantine.
Note
Files are saved to Quarantine regardless of the action you take.
Submit for analysis
Check this option to submit the file for analysis to ESET’s labs.
Exclude from detection
Select this option to exclude the infection on the file from scanning and add the file to the Exclusion list. It is important to realize that the file will only be no longer detected as that specific threat, but it will not be excluded from detection as such. Therefore if that file becomes infected later with other malware, it will be detected by the antivirus module. This type of exclusion can be used only for certain types of infiltrations.
Clean
This action is available when a cleanable infected file is detected. It will also be displayed for uncleanable infiltrations that have left entries in the Windows registry – if you choose this action for such an infiltration, the infected file will be deleted and malicious Windows registry entries removed.
Delete
This action deletes detected files. If it is possible to clean an infected object, the “delete” action won’t be displayed.
Warning
If you click this button, you run a risk of computer infection! Select it only if you are 100% sure that the file is harmless. You can also contact technical support to gain more information about the suspicious file.
Leave
Closes the alert window without taking any further action.
Show settings
Click the “v” to display additional settings.
Warning
If you have turned off showing warning windows and you come across an infiltration requiring user interaction, no action will be taken at all!
